With our recent split up, Rob and I have put both Centenary Way and the Wharfedale Walk on hold until the spring of 2003, to see whether we can finish those together as friends when some of the emotional upset has subsided. In the meantime I decided that I would start Heart of England Way without him, to tide me over until, I hope, we can start walking together again. I had planned to do it with friends such as Lindsay and Steve and Iva from work, but it seemed that finding weekends when everyone was free was going to be impossible, so I made the decision to take advantage of the late Indian summer of 2002 and start the walk on my own. If anyone wants to join me for any days on my way southwards, then of course, they will be more than welcome.

The pages that follow, describe my walk in photographs and words, so click on the links below to go to the pages for each day of walking.

I used two books to help me find my way on this walk. The Heart of England Way, written by Geoff Allen and published by Walkways, which descibes the route in both directions with hand drawn maps and photographs, and also the Recreational Path Guide, The Heart of England Way by Richard Sale. This book only descibes the route from south to north, but has nice Ordnance Survey maps in it, which were useful when Geoff Allen's route description was a bit ambiguous.

Both guidebooks are available from Guideposts.
